Learn about Hayling Island

One of the wonderful things about Hayling Island is that it has a unique blend of the traditional seaside holiday town with some of the greatest water sports in England.

If you just want to bring your stress levels down a little and enjoy “Island Time”, then Hayling Island will give you a range of wonderful scenery and intriguing wildlife to enjoy.

It is said that windsurfing was invented on Hayling Island - even if this isn’t strictly true, it illustrates how wondeful Hayling is for water sports.

Hayling Island is the only place in Britain to qualify for two European Blue Flag awards and its excellent beaches have also been awarded a Tidy Britain Seaside Award for their water quality, safety and cleanliness.

The 5 miles of beaches will give you plenty of places to chill out, dip in the sea, enjoy a barbeque or just sunbathe.

Originally dependent on fishing, farming and salt production, Hayling Island is now known for its amusement park and holiday centres, which made the island a popular seaside resort from the 1930s onwards.

There are a range of places to stay around Hayling Island, which will suit all budgets. From the caravan parks dotted around the place to all the little bed and breakfast lodgings as well as some of the finer hotels. One of the best Hayling Hotels is Cockle Warren Cottage Hotel.

Being near to the picturesque towns of Chichester and Emsworth allows you to enjoy some classy shopping and if you want more excitement, Portsmouth is only around the corner.
